Wekiva Island has long been known in Central Florida as the premier destination to have some fun and experience the natural elements that make the Sunshine State unique.
Paddleboard Orlando has built a solid reputation as a way to experience the City Beautiful’s recreation up close and personal in a fun, active way.
Now, the two are coming together for a new chapter in Orlando outdoor recreation. Paddleboard Orlando will move to its new home at Wekiva Island on Nov. 1.
“This is a perfect match,” said Bill Weinaug, owner of Wekiva Island. “At Wekiva Island, we are dedicated to sharing the beauty and uniqueness of the Wekiva River with our visitors. With Paddleboard Orlando, we know more visitors than ever will get to experience the real Florida.”
PBO provides paddleboard lessons and tours in a variety of locations around Central Florida. The company also rents and sells paddleboards from its shop. Formerly based in Winter Park, all operations will now run through the Wekiva Island location.
“We at Paddleboard Orlando are beyond excited to have our home base now located at Wekiva Island,” said Ned Johnson, owner of Paddleboard Orlando. “Wekiva Island is a world-class SUP destination. We’ve been doing tours here for 10 years and it has become our customers’ favorite place to SUP. It is truly a paddler’s paradise with wind protected, crystal clear, hip-deep water that is all shaded by majestic cypress, oaks and pine trees. We can’t wait to showcase this river and help protect and preserve this wild and scenic waterway!”
Located on the Wekiva River, Wekiva Island is a natural attraction with canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, volleyball and cornhole. The location also features a craft beer and wine bar and a full-service food truck, as well as a general store. In addition to regular monthly events, the venue hosts group and corporate events.
Sustainability is a key tenant of their mission.
