Paddleboard Wekiva Springs – Beginner Friendly

Year Round Paddleboard Adventure

We are very fortunate to have this amazing federally designated “wild and scenic ” waterway and watershed right in our own backyard! It truely is a paddlers dream location. With a boat free, crystal clear, shallow depth, slow flowing spring run; the wekiva is the ideal location for paddle crafts to explore and enjoy nature safely and in a unique fun way! Our route is suitable for beginners and first timers and kids over 13. The river is mostly shaded and sheltered from wind by it’s tree line. Along the way expect to see lot’s of fish, turtles, birds, maybe a small lazy gator and sometimes we’ll get lucky and see deer, otters and bears!

Since the first part is upriver, you will need to utilize the correct techniques for paddling explained before the start by your SUP instructor. Just about 3.0 miles in total length, this paddle will launch from wekiva island and head upriver to the springs at the state park. We’ll park our boards at the state park and go ashore, your admission to the park is included. Once inside depending on the weather and the group, we will either take a short hike thru the park on a designated boardwalk and trail or we will go for a swim in the spring head. Or you can just relax and hang out! In the designated swim area, there is a rock formation with a large crack where the springs water pours out at a rate of around 50 million gallons.

You’ll have the opportunity to swim thru the crack and have the springs force push you up, sounds scary but it’s not. It’s safe and fun and enjoyed by folks of all ages for many years without incident. We do bring a limited amount of masks and goggles. If you prefer your own, make sure you bring it with you on this trip! Leave the fins at home, they aren’t needed as they tend to cloud up the spring by stirring up the bottom.

If you have a gopro or waterproof action camera, pics inside the “crack” are really cool! After our swim or hike, we’ll get back on the boards and let the current take us back to our starting point at wekiva island!! bring cash for afterwards if you want to sample the wares from the delicious “without a paddle’ cafe and/or the “tooting otter bar ” both located onsite at wekiva island. Heck, kick back and hang out after your paddle, wekiva island is perfect for meeting new or old friends or just relaxing in a natural relaxing setting. Wekiva river adventure is one of our favorite paddles and the one we most often share with friends and family. Wekiva Island is an amazing oasis with something for everyone in your group. Check our you tube channel for a 5 min. video that outlines our trip in more detail!

Paddleboard Emerald Cut at Rock Springs Run

Standup Paddle Tour – Explore Emerald Cut’s Stunning Clarity and Color

With a constant current, rock springs run provides a workout with a reward for the stand-up paddler seeking a challenging paddle with amazing scenery. We rate rock springs upper run as a Intermediate in difficulty paddle, 13 and older only, must know how to swim. The scenery is truly amazing and during the week early in the morning the river is much less crowded! There are several rest spots along the way upriver so we will be stopping and taking breaks. Helpful for this paddle is that you paddle with your core and steer your board with bow turns and cross bow turns. These stroke and turning techniques will be reviewed before we take off upriver. About 3 miles total distance.

Called Emerald Cut because when the sun cuts thru the evergreen trees and reflects off the white sand bottom there are sections that become emerald in color, truly amazing natural beauty that is well worth the effort to see it! The turn around and down stream run is super fun! There’s a small swimming hole or 2 for anybody who up for a tree climb and jump ! On the way upstream there are several rest spots, depending on the group’s needs we will utilize these sand bars to catch our breath and rest for a minute.

  • Must know how to swim at

  • 13 and older, exceptions with experience are made on an individual basis

Manatee & Monkey Paddleboard Silver Springs Tour

Available for Private Paddleboard Adventure Tours

Ready for a crystal-clear jungle adventure? This first magnitude spring has an awesome paddle trail just for paddle craft! After our launch, we’ll wind around a lush tree lined waterway with water so clear you can easily see the bottom! This area has several troops of monkeys that roam the area. We don’t always see them, so we need everybody looking up and going slow to help us find them! Along the way we’re sure to see lots and lots of turtles of all sizes! On the paddle trail and in the main river manatees are most often spotted in Florida’s fall and winter months. We always hope to encounter manatees and monkeys but since they are wildlife, we can’t guarantee it. After the paddle trail ends, we’ll head upstream in the main river to visit the first magnitude springs of Silver Springs flowing at an amazing 500 million gallons a day. From there we’ll follow the paddle trail back to the launch. Our Silver Springs paddle tour is normally run as a loop but sometimes wind may alter our course. Paddlers should be 13 and up. Exceptions are made contact Ned for information 407-960-7815.

Don’t get lost in the crowd! Our tours have a max of 10 paddlers. We have a 1/5 ratio of guides to guests. Our groups are small, we want it to feel like you’re paddling with friends on an awesome adventure!

Custom Paddle Adventures with Uncle Ned

Local companies, visiting corporations and sports teams, Wekiva Island is our go to favorite for groups large and small.  The #1 and #2 reason why we love paddling at Wekiva Island. Wind protected and no motor boats. Take these variables out of the equation and paddleboarding just became real easy and even more enjoyable!  The Island is ideally set up for corporate or team groups, along side awesome scenic paddling, private cabanas, catering, and a medium size conference room are available as well.

Maybe you or your group are looking for something you don’t see offered?

Call us or email us, we want to paddle with you! 407 960 7815 or ned@paddleboardorlando.com

From one paddler to one hundred, paddlers we are happy to set up a single or multiple day paddling trip here in Central Florida or in the jungles of Costa Rica.

Locally we have a fun menu of SUP tours and activities that are mostly beginner friendly. Wekiva Island, Dinky Dock and French Landing are all great launch spots for unique fun beginner paddles. Emerald Cut, Venetian Canals, and Dog Island are our intermediate to advanced paddles in the Orlando area.

Venturing out from Orlando to a one or two hour drive and you can reach sandy beach isles with intracoastal waterways or crystal clear forest springs. We offer custom trips to New Smyrna Beach for coastal cruising or SUP surf if your up for it!  Special feature of paddling in New Smyrna? Lots of marine life! We almost always have a sighting or two of dolphins! The intracoastal waterway offers paddles to islands and sandbars and usually sightings of dolphins frolicking or feeding. The surf at NSB is some of the best on the east coast and is ideal for SUP surfing, we usually stay away from the inlet and surf the sandbars of Ester street and Bethune beach.  A bit inland in Ocala National Forest lies the majestic silver springs.  Now a state park, Silver Springs offers an amazing peek back in time to what old Florida looked like. The massive springs gushing with cold deep clear blue water are mesmerizing to paddle around and over. A recently opened paddle trail winds back around the spring, making a really neat place to cruise around on a board and check out! Season dependent, venture further down river and you may run into the new and old denizens of Silver Springs, monkeys and manatees!

Heading west from Orlando, we offer private trips to Weeki Wachee and Crystal River. Due to their popularity its best to run these trips in the fall or winter and during the week.
