Manatees and Monkeys Orlando Tours Silver Springs

Orlando’s best Manatee encounter:
Manatees and monkeys, Paddleboard Silver Springs tour!

Aloha! Manatees are air breathing gentle giants of the sea that inhabit both coasts and waterways of Florida. They have no natural predators and they are herbivores or plant eaters. The greatest threats to this dinosaur aged beauty are boats and their propellers and cold weather temps.  When the temperatures drop into the 50’s overnight for repeated nights, the manatees will start moving from the coastal waters and into the rivers so they can access the warmth of Florida’s natural springs that stay at a constant 72 degrees year round.

Florida’s springs are all unique, some have long and shallow spring runs that lead to their “boil”. While others have deep water and shorter distances. One of the largest and deepest springs is just about an hour and a half north of Orlando, Silver Springs boasts a first magnitude springs that pumps out over 500 million gallons of fresh water daily! Some of the largest and oldest manatees in Florida choose Silver Springs for their winter retreats. Silver Springs also offers a paddle craft only trail that winds around a cypress forest featuring crystal blue water.

Silver Springs offers a motorized boat tour that is ADA accessible. For those wanting a more intimate and dynamic experience, Paddleboard Orlando offers the best and lowest cost guided Manatee & Monkey paddleboard tours at Silver Springs. Ages 12 and under are invited to ride on their parent’s board for free. 13 and over can paddle their own board. Exceptions are made case by case, contact Ned for more info: (407) 960-7815.

Weather temperatures and wind conditions are always a factor and a concern. While we can’t control the wildlife, we will only run tours when we believe conditions are optimal for manatee sightings and for having a fun safe paddle. Mid-November thru Mid-March are the best months for manatee encounters. This paddle is generally run as a loop trail about 4 miles in distance and 2.5 hours of paddling with a few sit-down breaks. The pace is walking speed so beginners with a sense of adventure are always welcome. Silver Springs has one more wildlife secret. There are a few troops of wild monkeys that sometimes make an appearance during our tours. Sadly, they were abandoned in the 40’s but have survived and even thrived making Silver Springs their adopted home. Of course, we keep our distance and only partake in passive observation of these fascinating tree dwellers of the Springs.
